Arthur Dennis Brown, 60, of 24269 Rt. 971V Felts Mills, passed Sat., March 20, 2010 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wed., March 24th at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River with military honors.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tues., March 23 at the funeral home.

Born December 31, 1949, son of Arthur and Bessie Fields Brown, he graduated from New Lincoln High School in NYC. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.

Following school Mr. Brown was an employment counselor in Peoria, Illinois for several years. He enlisted in the Army for six years and continued his service with the National Guard, serving in the Gulf War.

He married Mary Szczechowicz on Sept, 28, 1988 in Black River. The couple then resided in Felts Mills. Mr. Brown then became a corrections officer in August 1989, at the Cape Vincent Corrections Facility, up until he retired in 2004.

Mr. Brown was very active at an early age with the civil rights movement, he was active with Bill Owen's democratic committee, he enjoyed working outdoors, and exercising.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Andrzej D. Brown, Felts Mills; two daughters, Bessie L. Brown, Felts Mills, Michelle Fields, S. Clinton, TN; and several brothers and sisters.
