CARTHAGE — John F. Mulcahy Sr., 73, formerly of Carthage and Black River, went to be with the Lord on Thursday March 18, 2010 at University Hospital Syracuse.
John was born January 10, 1937 in Philadelphia, NY, a son of Jack and Helen Graves Mulcahy. He graduated from Philadelphia High School and served in the United States Navy from July 11, 1956 until July 13, 1962.
John retired from Niagara Mohawk as a chief line foreman after thirty four years in 1995. He was a former communicant of St. James Church in Carthage, a life member of the Carthage Elks Lodge for forty two years and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Being a very generous individual, John collected food for food pantries in and around Watertown, especially for the Watertown Urban Mission.
Survived by his ex-wife, Constance Foster Mulcahy, are two sons and a daughter-in-law Todd Mulcahy, Central Square, John, Jr. and Catherine, Liverpool, two daughters and their husbands Jaymie and Russ Denny, Nassau, NY and Heidi and Ken Hicks, LeRay, NY, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jimmy and Annie Mulcahy, Watertown and David Mulcahy, Florida, six grandchildren; Caitlin, Krista and Kylie Denny, Chelsea, Claire and Kevin Mulcahy, Johnna and Brittany Simser, a great grandson Andrew Mulcahy and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Pastor Dick Graves, and a sister Chloe Beales, predeceased him.
Calling hours will be Saturday March 27 at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Black River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Watertown Urban Mission, 247 Factory Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
