HENDERSON — Town residents will have to start buying tickets to drop off bags of garbage at the transfer station beginning April 1.

Sanitation Department employees are required to sell tickets in $5 increments to residents who bring their trash to the facility.

An average 10- to 12-gallon trash bag costs $2 to dump, town Supervisor Raymond A. Walker said.

The distribution of receipts is in response to the recommendations made by the state comptroller's office. The tickets will be considered a transaction receipt.

There will be no charge for recyclables, Mr. Walker said.
