March has been National Professional Social Work month. I'd like to call attention to the need for licensed social workers in our community and ask others to join me in the field of professional social work. This is a profession that offers a future of helping people help themselves. Consider a career in social work.

Social workers take a holistic approach to helping people. This just means that we take into consideration the impact of one's environment — family, culture, community and more — to help one find the best solutions.

During this time of economic uncertainty, health care changes and unemployment, it is not surprising that the waiting lists at our hospitals, clinics and private practitioners are long. The journey to becoming licensed in New York may be complex, however, the number of professional social workers in our community is small and the need for us is large. Join me in the profession and make a difference here in our community.
