Two Drum soldiers killed in Afghanistan IED blast

Two Fort Drum soldiers were killed Monday in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

Staff Sgt. Christopher F. Cabocoy, 30, Virginia Beach, Va. and Pfc. Edwin C. Wood, 18, Omaha, Neb., served as cavalry scouts with 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Sgt. Cabacoy had been stationed at Fort Drum since October 2009, before deployment. He served in Iraq from January 2004 to January 2005.

He is survived by his wife and son.

Pfc. Wood arrived on post in April and deployed to Afghanistan shortly thereafter. He joined the Army in October 2009. He is survived by his parents.
