JOYCE EVELYN RICHARDSON, 72 of The Villages, FL passed away the early morning of July 11, 2010 after a short struggle with cancer at her home. Born May 17, 1938 to Benjamin and Mazie (Storie) Barker of Somerville, NY, she graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1956. Joyce was a member of the Civil Air Patrol along with her childhood schoolmate, Robert F. Richardson under the command of her father, Ben Barker. After school, she and Robert joined the Air Force together & upon completion of boot camp they were married. She was discharged after expecting their first daughter Robin of Tacoma, WA. A son Jeffry, of New Smyrna Beach, FL was born in 1959 and a second daughter Jeri was born in 1961.
Surviving are her son-in-law Steve Lynch & 2 grandchildren, Mrs. Ferny & Rex Shepson and Bert Lynch, a sister-in-law Ginny Fenlong, and a mother-in-law Dorothy Rubado of Canandaigua NY.
She is predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Mazie Barker, her half sister Betty, her husband Robert Richardson, and her daughter Jeri.
Upon her husband Robert's discharge from the Air Force in 1961, they settled in Auburn, WA. Joyce was an Avon Representative for 4 years, the program director for Olympic Health Spa for 3 years. She was a graduate of Highline Community College, Midway, WA, earning an AA Certificate in Aviation Business. She served as an office manager of Flight Terminal Security at the Sea/Tac International Airport till 1993 when they both retired and moved to Colony Hills Florida to be near Robert's mother. They later moved to Zephyrhills until 2003 when they moved to the Villages. They joined the Seventh - day Adventist Church of Lady Lake, a loving close body of believers who have ministered and cared for her until the end. Besides her children & grandchildren, she is survived by 2 sisters, Jan Barker of Somerville, NY and Mrs. Judy Mattingly of Theresa, NY and a brother James Barker of Gouverneur, NY.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM, 13 July at the Seventh Day Adventist of Lady Lake, 231 Lake Griffon Road, Lady Lake, Florida.
