The Watertown City Council will have the option Monday night of choosing a design that will be painted on the Lachenauer Plaza fountain. Included in its agenda packet delivered Thursday are the vote totals collected on the North Country Arts Council's website and at the Flower Memorial Library for the 14 designs submitted last month for the fountain.
A memo written by City Manager Mary M. Corriveau to the council states 740 votes were cast online and another 69 were submitted at the library. Design L led the tallies at both locations, receiving a total of 318 votes. It was followed by Design A, which received 143 votes.
Design L includes a depiction of Watertown if the viewer were looking down on the city from a plane, along with other views of Public Square and Thompson Park. Design A plays more on the idea that the painting will have water falling on it and includes pictures of a girl playing in the rain and another of her holding an umbrella.
Monday, the council is expected to discuss which, if any, design it would like to see painted on the fountain.
