National Grid is reporting that about 4,000 customers in the Clayton and Alexandria Bay areas are without power.

A line of storms from Clayton to Chaumont is tracking across northern Jefferson County. Emergency dispatchers have reported that a utility pole near Clayton Marina, 50 State St., was toppled by the storm. A low-hanging wire has also been reported near the Plessis fire station on County Route 3.

Several traffic-control units have also been dispatched to intersections near Clayton because of the power outage.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for 6 p.m. for Jefferson and northern Lewis counties.

The agency was reporting that a line of thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph is moving east at 50 mph. Municipalities included in the warning are Watertown, Theresa, Fort Drum, West Carthage and Natural Bridge.
