A man was transported to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, Wednesday afternoon after the van he was driving was involved in a three-vehicle accident at State and Arlington streets, directly in front of a city Fire Department substation.

After city firefighters cut the driver's side door from the van, the man walked to a nearby stretcher. Police at the scene refused to provide the number of people involved in the accident or their names.

Traffic was diverted around the accident, which occurred at about 3 p.m., for more than an hour.
