Douglas Osborne Jr., Watertown, has received the Jefferson County Democratic Committee's inaugural collegiate scholarship.
The recent graduate of Jefferson Community College, who will continue his education at the University of Albany, has volunteered on several Democratic campaigns, including Sheriff John P. Burns' election bid this fall.
“Doug has been a supporter for years and although we hate to see him go," said Mr. Burns in a news release. "We know that he'll bring that go get'em attitude wherever his future brings him. He's a great young man and I wish him all the best."
Mr. Osborne, a 2001 Immaculate Heart Central graduate, received a associate's degree in humanities and social sciences this year at JCC.
The Watertown resident was presented the scholarship, the amount of which is at the moment unknown by me, by the county's top Democrats, including Rep. William L. Owens, Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine and committee Chairman Sean Hennessey.
Those who are going to be a college student next year can be considered for this scholarship by contacting the committee headquarters at 788-4590 or e-mailing the group.
