Ethel M. Wright, 94, Minetto, passed peacefully Sunday, August 29, 2010, at home.
Ethel, a Russell, St. Lawrence Co. native, born June 18, 1916, was the daughter of the late Randall Newcomb Storrin and Cora Elizabeth Law - Storrin, both of Russell, NY.
Ethel attended Knox Memorial High School and played varsity girls basketball, and upon graduation, Ethel worked in Ogdensburg, NY, as manager of Fanny Farmer Candy.
On September 14, 1943, she married Glenn E. Wright in Old South Church, Boston, Mass. Her husband shortly thereafter was stationed in England for W.W.II. Her husband, Glenn, became Commander of England's largest seaport for the departure of ships, troops, and materials for the Normandy invasion. After W.W.II, Ethel and Glenn settled in Canton, NY. While Glenn became a long time administrator and acting president of Canton ATC, Ethel was the homemaker. They had two sons, Glenn Randall, 1944, and Barry Michael, 1948.
With Ethel's interest in antiques, she operated Wright's Antique Shop for many years at 33 W. Main St., Canton. When their two boys were in high school, Ethel worked the counter and as a film developer for Dwight Church's photo studio.
Ethel was known for her knowledge and her enjoyment of antiques. She loved her family, flowers, antiquing, and spending time with her family and friends at their camp at Sylvia Lake. Ethel was an animal lover, and she loved her beloved pets, her dog Spotsy, and her cats Tabby, Sissy and Lucky Kitty.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Glenn E. Wright, her sister Betty Earl of Pennsylvania, her brother Leland Storrin of Seattle, Washington, her brother Burt Storrin of Potsdam, NY, her brother Randall Storrin of Tupper Lake, NY. She is survived by her older sister, Myrtle, who will be 97 in December, the only survivor of her siblings. She is also survived by her sons, Glenn R. Wright of Oswego, Barry M. Wright (Carmen) of Minetto, grandchildren Terri L. (John Leanna), Barry M., Glenn R. (Molly), Nikki M. (Tim Cary), Christopher J. Steven D., Paula (Barreto), Michael (Tannish), 10 great-grandchildren, nieces Leywanna Bullock, Dale (Robert Hovey), Elizabeth Delight, Janice Heidal, Debbie, Sharon, Linda and nephews Heaman (Joan), Marvin (Janice), Thomas (Sue), Kevin, Dennis and John Storrin, several other nieces, nephews and her close friend Joyce Scrathdee of Colton, NY who Ethel used to enjoy barbecues with on Riverside Drive in Canton.
Calling hours are 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 5th at Green Funeral Home, 33 Park Street, Gouverneur with Rev. Richard Mavforth, pastor of Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church.
