Franklin J. "Frank" Engelhardt, 92 of Hanover, formerly of Watertown, New York and Manchester, NH, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Hanover Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hanover, PA. He was the husband of the late Margaret Olga (Harmer) Engelhardt who died August 31, 2007.
Born April 4, 1918 in Manchester, NH, he was a son of the late Franklin Richard and Marion (Morrison) Engelhardt.
Mr. Engelhardt was a 1936 graduate of Manchester High School West, Manchester, N.H. He received a B.S. degree in Social Science with a minor in psychology from Springfield College in 1941.
Frank was employed in various positions with the YMCA for 50 years and retired as the Long Island YMCA's Vice President for Business and Personnel.
Frank also served as President of the Association of Professional YMCA Directors. Mr. Engelhardt was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
His other memberships included The Watertown N.Y. Masonic Lodge #49 F & AM, where he served as master in 1997-1998, 2003-2004 and 2006-2007, the Media Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Watertown, N.Y. where he served as Illustrious Potentate in 2000, the Far Rockaway - Five Towns Rotary Club, having been past president and having perfect attendance for 201/2 years, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club.
His survivors include a daughter: Carolyn E. "Carol" Politano and her husband Phil, Hanover; two grandchildren: Karen Brott, Bend, Oregon and Kathryn Dahlin, Humble, TX; three great grandchildren: Benjamin Brott, Samantha Dahlin and Jake Dahlin; also two brothers: Leonard Engelhardt, Bonita Springs, FL and Clifford Engelhardt, West Chazy, N.Y. and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Alson Engelhardt.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to celebrate the life of Frank Engelhardt on Saturday, Oct. 2nd, 2010 at 11:00am at the Sulpher Springs Cemetery, Rt.1 Sulpher Springs Rd., Watertown, N.Y. 13601 with Rev. Patricia H. Farr officiating.
