Massena man charged over August theft

MASSENA — John C. Welcher, 31, of 225 E. Orvis, St. Apt. 3, was arrested about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday and charged with third-degree attempted robbery, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, over an incident the night of Aug. 24.

Village police said Mr. Welcher assaulted another man for drugs and money on Grinnell Avenue.

He was arraigned in Village Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $1,000 bail. He will face prosecution in Village Court.
