The Democratic state Senate primary campaign between Michael Hennessy and Maria Pavelock is extremely important to the future of the local Democratic Party.
Hennessy represents those who attempt to establish a real difference between politicians who say they want to serve the people and those who truly are dedicated to reform government.
Pavelock, whose résumé provides no incentive to vote for her, is the choice of entrenched party bosses whose power emanates from a politically incestuous swamp that exists in Oneida County and the state Legislature.
Hennessy, on the other hand, has been a vigorous reform-minded member of the county Legislature whose goal has always been to eliminate waste and overspending. He advocates a property tax cap and term limits. Hennessy will present a vivid contrast in a race with Joe Griffo. That is exactly why party bosses did not want him to win.
Democrats who desire to have a party that truly works toward responsible, responsive government and not another "me-too", go-along-to-get-along politician, should be sure to make the effort to vote for Hennessy.
