OGDENSBURG — The Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., announced Thursday that it had received a grant from the Corning Inc. Foundation for general operating support.

"This is money that helps keep the lights on, pays the fuel bills, goes toward salaries and supports the upkeep of the collection," said Edward A. LaVarnway, the museum's executive director.

General operating support grants are harder to come by but vital to the museum, Mr. LaVarnway said.

"Folks like to say, 'I paid for this painting,'" Mr. LaVarnway said. "It's not as exciting to say, 'I paid toward the January energy bill of $6,200,' but it's what keeps us going."
