ALEXANDRIA BAY — A Virginia man wanted there for allegedly sexually abusing a child was arrested here Friday while trying unsuccessfully to enter Canada.
Siyamand Salehzadeh, 22, Manassas, Va., is wanted by police in Fairfax County, Va., on a warrant charging him with sexual assault and sodomy of a child under age 13, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Border officers had received notice from Canada Border Services Agency that Mr. Salehzadeh had attempted to enter Canada, but was denied admission because of the outstanding warrant. He was returned to the United States, where he told border officers he was heading to Ottawa to visit family.
Border officers claim he was found in possession of a valid U.S. passport, but also had his brother's Iranian passport and $2,400. He allegedly told officers that he had picked up his brother's passport accidentally and that the money was for a one-day trip to Canada.
He was turned over to state police and arraigned Monday in Jefferson County Court, where he waived an extradition hearing and agreed to be returned to Virginia.
