Newcomers win several Jefferson races

Newcomers won election to several town and village positions in Jefferson County, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

Michelle A. Bouchard defeated former Deputy Clerk Dana Player by 303 votes for Cape Vincent town clerk. Ms. Bouchard received 635 votes to Ms. Player's 332. Town Clerk Jeri Ann Mason resigned in September after a partial audit report found discrepancies in the town's finances.

Former Watertown Police Benevolent Association President Jerry D. Golden easily won a seat on the Cape Vincent village Board of Trustees.

A tight three-way race for the second of two seats on the Cape Vincent board had incumbent Douglas J. Putnam leading 159 votes to Harry E. Landers Jr.'s 157 and Michele Carlton's 129.

Elsewhere in Jefferson County, with 271 votes, George H. Aubin defeated former Supervisor David E. Perry and former Councilman Steven C. Cote for a seat on the Henderson Town Council. Mr. Perry received 197 votes and Mr. Cote 117.

Danielle L. Jury was re-elected, with 219 votes, to her seat as village trustee in Alexandria Bay. With 178 votes, Gary A. Williams, owner of Skiffs on James Street, defeated Roger L. Jobson with 147 votes and Stephen "Bubba" Derrigo with 138 votes. There were 12 write-in votes.

In the town of Clayton, Christopher D. Matthews, owner of Bobcat of Watertown, was voted to a trustee seat with 888 votes to Gerald Hill's 636 votes. Mr. Hill also was defeated in 2009.

Daniel J. Villa received 517 votes for a seat on the Lyme Town Council. Charles Mount ran as a write-in candidate. There were 300 write-in votes.

In the village of Sackets Harbor, incumbent Lawrence C. Barone and John LaDuc will fill two seats on the board. Mr. LaDuc received 339 votes and Mr. Barone received 321 votes.
