DEKALB JUNCTION — Two women were accused of stealing nearly $1,200 in items from Walmart on Route 11 in Potsdam — and they were arrested after allegedly arguing over how to split the merchandise.
Pearl E. Coulibaly, 44, Paterson, N.J., and Christine M. Merritt, 20, Watertown, each were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, state police said.
The items listed as stolen included two televisions, a doll house, several dolls and various Christmas decorations, troopers said. Police initially were called to Route 11 in the town of DeKalb for a disturbance involving the pair. A family member reportedly called police after arguing over how to split up the merchandise.
Investigators said the women allegedly showed an old receipt to a store greeter before getting the items out of the store. Both were arraigned in Fowler Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $2,500 bail or $10,000 bond.
The investigation is continuing, and more arrests are pending.
