Wisconsin's Public Service Commission has designed a state law that sets rules for regulating wind farm siting.

The rules, which includes setbacks of 1,250 feet, apply to projects under 100 megawatts. Communities can appeal to be exempted from the rules.

Wind power opponents in Jefferson County have often fought for strict turbine siting rules, as much as 3,000 feet distance between a nonparticipating resident's property line and a turbine.
