Here's what's happening in the north country.

State budget

Legislators will continue passing a raft of legislation that makes up the entirety of the budget. A few separate language bills passed last night, but nothing noteworthy, as far as I know.

Feds

Sen. Charles E. Schumer holds a conference call with reporters to repeat his call for legislation expanding maple tapping opportunities on private lands.

The House Transportation Committee completes two days of hearings on improving surface transportation programs.

The Senate Agriculture Committee holds a.hearing on high gas prices' effect on farming. Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand is a member.

Tug Hill Commission

The Tug Hill Commission will meet at 4 p.m. today at the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington St. During the meeting, the board will discuss the 2011 Local Leaders Institute Graduation and conduct routine commission business.

Sackets Harbor

The Sackets Harbor Planning Board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. today to discuss the Madison Barracks application. The board is expected to review the state environmental quality review application to move forward with notifying other involved state agencies about the project.
