Deferiet mayor Robert Foster, a Republican, will not run for county Legislature to replace retiring Gino Zando.

That scuttles any chance for a GOP primary; Republican Jonathan Hirschey has announced his candidacy for the race.

Democrats haven't announced a candidate for that race, but party officials say we haven't heard the last from them on some "surprise" candidates.

Mr. Foster said in a news release that he's supporting Mr. Hirschey.
