Jefferson County wheat is a key ingredient in what is believed to be the first commercial beer brewed in New York City using state wheat in a century.

North Country Farms LLC, on Route 37 in Pamelia, provided 500 pounds of cracked wheat for Brooklyn Brewery's High Line Elevated Wheat beer, created for the elevated public park High Line's The Lot on Tap, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

North Country Farms mills red hard winter wheat from the region for wholesale flour sales and to put in pancake and muffin mixes, sold in retail outlets.
