POTSDAM A team from Clarkson University won second place in the inaugural Undergraduate Design Project Competition in Rehabilitation and Assistive Devices, held in June at the 2011 American Society of Mechanical Engineers Summer Bioengineering Conference in Farmington, Pa.
The device proposed in the students project, A Partial Weight-Bearing Reminder Device for Gait Rehabilitation After Lower Extremity Surgery, was designed to be slipped into a shoe and featured a combination of aural, visual and tactile alerts to remind elderly patients to follow doctors orders after surgery. Team members were mechanical engineering majors Elsbeth D. Adams, Evans Mills, Travis L. Kiser, Orlando, Fla., Rochelle S. LaPorte, St. Albans, Vt., Tracy M. Roux, Roxbury, Vt., and engineering and management major Caitlin C. Storey, Clinton.
