Three Lewis County courts were merged into one after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed the legislation into law yesterday.

Here's Steve Virkler's previous story on it, which gives a good overview of the situation.

Mr. Cuomo had touted consolidation early in his term, but I haven't heard much of it since. Of course, the SAGE commission will consolidate many state agencies, but many people are wondering why we need a town Lyme and a village of Chaumont. And then there's that mess up near Ogdensburg. Are you in Oswegatchie? Or the Burg? Or Lisbon? When I lived there, I never really knew.
