Two 10th Mountain Division soldiers killed in Afghanistan

FORT DRUM — Two 10th Mountain Division soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device Wednesday in Afghanistan.

Cody G. Baker, 19, of Holton, Kan., and Pfc. Gil I. Morales Del Valle, 21, of Jacksonville, Fla. were both assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team in Fort Polk, La.

Both soldiers joined the Army last year, were on their first deployment, and both are recipients of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Pfc. Baker’s survivors include his mother and stepfather. Survivors for Pfc. Morales Del Valle include his father, mother and stepfather.

The 4th Brigade Combat Team’s headquarters is Fort Drum.
