9-11 memorial in Watertown offers visceral reminder of attack

I strongly encourage you to go check out the 9-11 memorial exhibit at the Dulles State Office Building, Watertown (there's a similar one at SUNY Potsdam for you St. Lawrence County residents).
The exhibit offers an informative look into the tragedy 10 years ago that took nearly 3,000 lives, including the lives of at least 14 people with connections to the north country.
A hunk of landing gear from one of the planes that hit the Twin Towers is the focal point of the exhibit. Farther to the left, a glass case holds the charred remains of a revolver. Among the rubble of the attacks was a slew of crime-scene evidence that was lost.
Large blue panels outline the path that the planes took — the two that hit in New York City, one that hit the Pentagon and one that crash-landed in a field in Pennsylvania.
It's less eulogistic than what might be expected — it includes a grainy photograph of one of the 9-11 hijackers, for example.
The exhibit is well worth an afternoon trip. It'll be open all this week, and on Sept. 11.
