Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is earning praise from two groups that could hardly be more divergent: the Watertown Daily Times editorial board, a conservative bunch, and MoveOn, a liberal activist group.
First, the Times (and it's not the Daily Times, as I've seen quite often around the blogosphere) applauds Mr. Schneiderman for sending "the correct message — that municipal officeholders are entrusted by the public to perform their duties with the utmost diligence and integrity.."
That's the case of Jeri Mason, a former Cape Vincent clerk who's accused of stealing up to $50,000 from the town. Mr. Schneiderman's office is prosecuting her.
And then we have MoveOn, a group that's up in arms about Mr. Schneiderman getting kicked off a panel of attorneys general looking into mortgage abuses by big banks.
"Eric Schneiderman and Beau Biden, the attorneys general of New York and Delaware, are holding strong despite enormous pressure from the administration to accept the deal. Schneiderman's insistence that these crimes be investigated and prosecuted has now gotten him kicked off the settlement committee," the liberal group wrote in an email to its 5 million acolytes.
