A group representing 24,000 AFL-CIO union workers in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence made another raft of endorsements in upcoming races in the north country.
According to the Central Labor and Trades Council, the union endorsed the following candidates:
St. Lawrence County –
Ogdensburg City Mayor – William Nelson
Hammond Town Supervisor – Michele McQueer
Jefferson County -
Legislator District 4 – Allen Drake
Legislator District 6 – Mike Astafan
Legislator District 11 – Ron Cole
Watertown City Mayor – Jeff Smith
Watertown City Judge – Eugene Renzi
Jefferson County Treasurer – Karen Christie
Lewis County -
Legislator District 4 – John Boyd
Legislator District 6 – Paul Stanford
A few things of note here: The council endorsed Watertown mayoral candidate Jeff Smith, a Republican who is challenging incumbent Jeff Graham in the Nov. 8 election (the election is nonpartisan).
It also endorsed Ogdensburg incumbent Mayor Bill Nelson, who is in the middle of a pretty serious battle over a house that the city owned, but wasn't collecting rent or taxes on.
Here's my story on the union's previous round of endorsements.
