NNY natives have served and died in War on Terror

A number of military service members with north country ties have died in the War on Terror. They include:

* Army Sgt. 1st Class Ramon A. Acevedoaponte, 29, of Watertown, died April 13, 2003 after an improvised explosive device attack in Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division in Fort Stewart, Ga.

* Marine Corps Cpl. Henry W. Bogrette, 21, of Richville was killed March 22, 2007 in Iraq. He was assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

* Marine Corps Cpl. Kelly M. Cannan, 21, of Lowville, was killed April 20, 2005 after IED attack in Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, Calif.

* Marine Corps Cpl. Seamus M. Davey, 25, of Lowville, was killed Oct. 21, 2005 from gunshot wounds in Iraq. He was assigned to the 4th Marine Division, in Reno, Nev.

* Army Spc. Chad E. Fuller, 24, of Potsdam, was killed by small arms fire Aug. 31, 2003 in Afghanistan. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum.

* Army Cpl. James D. Gudridge, 20, of Carthage was killed Jan. 6, 2008 in Iraq after an IED attack. He was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division in Fort Stewart, Ga.

* Army Sgt. Erick J. Klusacek, 22, of Calcium was killed June 8, 2010 after a vehicle accident in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

* Army Lt. Col. Leon G. James, 47, of Sackets Harbor died Oct. 10, 2005 after an IED strike. He was was commander of the 3rd Battalion, 314th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade, 78th Division (Training Support) out of Fort Dix, N.J., and based at Fort Drum.

* Army Pfc. Luis A. Perez, 19, of Theresa was killed Aug. 27, 2004 in Iraq after a vehicle he was riding in hit a land mine. He was a member of the 223rd Transportation Company, Army Reserve, Norristown, Pa.

* Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Nicholas J. Sovie, 20, of Ogdensburg died in a helicopter crash Feb. 17, 2006 off the coast of Djibouti. He was a member of HMH 464 squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C.

* Army Pfc. Jack T. Sweet, 19, of Alexandria Bay died in Feb. 8, 2008 in Iraq after an IED attack. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division.

* Army Master Sgt. Tulsa T. Tuliau, 33, of Watertown died Sept. 26, 2005 in Iraq after an IED attack. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division.

* Army Staff Sgt. James G. West Jr., 34, of Carthage was killed July 11, 2004 in Iraq after a vehicle collision. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 94th Field Artillery Brigade, based in Baumholder, Germany.
