Rep. William L. Owens’s office says it has received word that U.S. Postal Service workers will hold a “Save America’s Postal Service” rally outside of his Watertown office on Washington Street from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Post offices in Deferiet, Ellisburg, West Stockholm, Hailesboro and Fishers Landing are five of about 100 upstate New York post offices that are being targeted for closure.

The Postal Service also is considering closing locations in Parishville, DePeyster, Lorraine, Thousand Island Park, Cranberry Lake, Dickinson Center, Fine, Newton Falls, Piercefield, Pyrites, Rainbow Lake, Brier Hill and Wanakena.

Mr. Owens has written to Patrick R. Donahoe, the postmaster general, urging him to consider public comments on closures and how they could affect rural communities.
