Rep. Bill Owens wants to raise $6,000 between Sept. 28 and Sept. 29, his finance chief said in an email blast to supporters.
"This Friday, September 30th marks the end of the 3rd Quarter, and it is important that we reach our online fundraising goal to ensure we have the resources to fight the coming attacks," Gary S. Whidby wrote. "Especially now that Matt Doheny, Bill’s far-right, self-funding opponent announced his plans to run for a third time!"
("Third time" is a bit of a stretch here. Mr. Doheny considered running in 2009, but GOP leaders didn't pick him, so the nomination went to Dede Scozzafava.)
The fundraising appeal is one of many that are sure to go out in the dual game of "campaign expectations" and "having enough money to pay a campaign."
Congressional campaigns need to raise money, so that way they seem more legitimate, and therefore, can raise more money to win. See?
