The town of Hammond voted to override the state's 2 percent property tax cap, according to The Journal's Jimmy Lawton.

The state this year enacted a cap on property tax levy growths to 2 percent yearly, with certain exceptions. And with a 60 percent vote of a municipal board or council, that cap can be overridden. Hammond hasn't made up its budget yet, so this appears to be a procedural quiver in the arrow, so to speak.
