FORT DRUM A 10th Mountain Division soldier died Monday of injuries suffered in combat in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
Sgt. Nathan L. Wyrick, 34, of Enumclaw, Wash., was a supply specialist with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Fort Drum.
Sgt. Wyrick joined the Army in March 2006. After training at Fort Jackson, S.C., he was stationed briefly at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and then at Fort Lewis, Wash., from September 2006 until July 2010, at which time he came to Fort Drum. He deployed with his unit in March. He previously was deployed from August 2008 to August 2009.
He leaves a wife and four sons. He was a 1996 graduate of Franklin Pierce High School, Enumclaw, who played football.
His awards and commendations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, five Certificates of Achievement and the CombatAction Badge.
