Clarkson ROTC cadet sworn in by father in Afghanistan

POTSDAM — A Clarkson University Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet took his oath of enlistment in an unusual way at the beginning of this semester.

Cadet Andrew Nelden of Felts Mills, one of nine Army ROTC cadets from Clarkson’s Golden Knight Battalion, was sworn in by his father, Lt. Col. Jeffery R. Nelden, via Skype from Kandahar, Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Nelden is the Regional Command South Provost Marshal and Chief Afghan National Police Development Officer.

Other cadets taking oaths that day were Jon Sheckler of Phelps, Kyle Chapman of Palmyra, Jacob Hewitt of Durham, N.H., and Garret Michalek of Mayfield, Matthew Brosseau of St. Albans, Vt., Tanner Jones of Fort Drum, Matthew Coryea of Bedford, N.H., and Jacob O’Brien of Watertown.
