Soldier killed in rollover at Fort Drum is identified

FORT DRUM — Pvt. Michael S. Koepfle was killed over the weekend during a training exercise at Fort Drum.

About 9 a.m. Sunday, soldiers from the 543rd Quartermaster Company, 548th Combat Service Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade were taking part in routine training when a Humvee carrying Pvt. Koepfle and two other soldiers rolled over near Range 14E on post.

The accident killed Pvt. Koepfle, a supply clerk who joined the Army in October 2010, and injured the other two unidentified soldiers.

Pvt. Koepfle, San Bernardino, Calif., arrived at Fort Drum this month. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

The cause of the rollover is still under investigation.
