Watertown mayoral candidates Jeffrey E. Graham, the incumbent, and Councilman Jeffrey M. Smith unveiled their last round of campaign finance reports before the Nov. 8 election this week, showing, the candidates said, that everything is going according to plan.
Short of dragging them is reminding them of Election Day, reminding them that this is your time to say how you feel about the city at the polls, Mr. Smith said of the whirlwind next week and a half.Youve got a choice. I think the choices are clear.
Mr. Smith has won the money game in the race. He has raised a total of $11,035 since announcing his run. Mr. Graham has raised a total of $8,607.
Mr. Smith has used personal loans to pad his campaign coffers, totaling $4,000, according to Board of Elections data. Mr. Graham, on the other hand, has relied on individual donors, taking in $7,743 from them.
The most recent spending splash from Mr. Smith was $1,750 for a prominent billboard ad on Arsenal Street.
Mr. Graham has used his campaign blog to cull donations from small-dollar individuals, with a graphic of a stack of $100 bills and a note that says Your Help Is Appreciated. He took in about $1,000 from donors who gave less than $100 in the past three weeks, and will hold a fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Petes Restaurant, 111 Breen Ave.
He had to slow down door-to-door campaigning because he ran out of handbills to hand out to residents.
Youve got to bring your ship into port, Mr. Graham said. Thats what were doing now. Hopefully were not taking on water as were doing it.
