HOGANSBURG Two people were killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Akwesasne.
According to a St. Regis Mohawk Tribe press release, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department responded at approximately 2:30 a.m. to a report of a fatal motor vehicle accident on the North Road.
The driver of the vehicle, Amber Lynn Aliff, was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, Dakota Benedict, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sidney Oakes, a second passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital and later taken to the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was initially listed in critical but stable condition, tribal officials said. An official with the hospital said on Thursday that she had been upgraded to good condition.
Also responding to the scene were the Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, the Mohawk Council Ambulance Service, the Seaway Valley Ambulance Service and the Bombay Fire and Rescue Squad.
