Cape to purchase 12E property for salt barn

CAPE VINCENT — The town soon will purchase a 841-by-146-foot plot of land adjacent to the town office building on Route 12E to build a salt barn for its Highway Department.

Town Supervisor Urban C. Hirschey said the town will spend $12,000 to acquire the property. However, construction of the salt barn is unlikely to begin anytime soon.

Mr. Hirschey said the town first will have to build up funds for this long-term project and hopes to complete the barn within five or six years.
