Watertown man jailed after police seize drugs

State police alleged seizing 31 packets of heroin, 52 grams of crack cocaine and a small quantity of marijuana in a raid Wednesday morning at 431 Stone St.

The resident, Nicholas D. Rafus, 26, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He remained a prisoner Monday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, with bail set at $25,000 by Pamelia Town Justice Richard C. Baker.

The street value of the seized drugs is about $6,000, police said. Also seized in the 6:30 a.m. raid was $336 in cash. According to court documents, the drugs were found in a locked safe under Mr. Rafus’s bed.

Mr. Rafus was released from prison in February 2009 after serving a term given him in Jefferson County Court in January 2004 for third-degree robbery, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision website. He concluded a parole term in November 2009.

The state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team was assisted in the raid by the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force and Watertown police.
