Paetec Holding Corp., Herndon, Va., said Monday that it will be the next fiber-optics service provider for Fort Drum.

It was awarded a three-year contract through the Defense Information System Agency for services of fiber and dense wavelength division multiplexing, which carries multiple channels of data on a single fiber.

Paetec will install diverse fiber-optic systems, leased from the Development Authority of the North Country, to the post to ensure reliability even in the event of a fiber cut.

DANC CEO James W. Wright said in an email that Paetec’s expansion is a result of DANC’s second line, which runs from Utica to Fort Drum and provides service redundancy.

Paetec owns and operates a fiber network spanning 36,700 route miles and serves 25 military facilities, the company said.
