A Watertown man was charged Saturday with drunken driving and, later, with choking a woman with a stethoscope at Samaritan Medical Center, 830 Washington St.
Scott D. Massey, 34, of 223 Keyes Ave., Apt. 1, was charged by city police with aggravated driving while intoxicated, failure to comply with police, unreasonable speed, unsafe start and two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign at 2:10 a.m. in the 600 block of Academy Street. He had a blood alcohol content of 0.22 percent, police said.
A BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes intoxication under state law, while the threshold for aggravated DWI is 0.18 percent.
City police then charged Mr. Massey on Saturday night with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief after they located him at 25119 County Route 63 in the town of Watertown. He was accused of choking Hillary Van Sile, Watertown, with his hands and by wrapping a stethoscope around her neck at 6:30 a.m. at the hospital. The stethoscope also was damaged, police said.
Also charged with DWI and related offenses:
■ Joseph K. Kearns, 60, Campton, N.H., was charged by state police at 1:09 a.m. Sunday on Route 11 in the town of Adams. He had a BAC of 0.13 percent, police said.
■ Michael W. ODonnell, 40, of 28764 Route 37, Evans Mills, also was charged with making an improper turn when arrested at 4:15 a.m. Thursday by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies on Route 11 in the town of Pamelia. Deputies said he had a breath test reading of 0.16 percent BAC.
■ William W. Smart, 25, of 15 VanBuren St., Antwerp, also was charged by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies with crossing hazard markings at 2:50 a.m. Saturday on Route 11 in the town of LeRay. He had a BAC of 0.11 percent, according to the sheriffs office.
■ Michelle R. Hester, 23, of 914 Superior St., Apt. 2, Watertown, also was cited by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies with crossing hazard markings at 1:45 a.m. Saturday on Route 3 in the town of Pamelia. Deputies listed her BAC as 0.10 percent.
■ Jenifer N. Hartfield, 24, Fort Drum, was arrested by Watertown police at 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Moulton Street. She also faces three counts of failure to signal a turn, single counts of speeding and running a red light and a stop-sign infraction. She registered a BAC of 0.11 percent, police said.
■ Adam F. Gervais, 24, Malone, also was charged by state police with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at 1:40 a.m. Sunday on Route 11 in Malone. He refused to take a breath test and was charged with a violation, police said. He was arraigned in Malone Town Court and sent to the Franklin County jail, Malone, in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
Charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:
■ James J. Crobar, 22, Ogdensburg, also was charged by Ogdensburg city police at 11:50 p.m. Friday on Irvin Street, Ogdensburg, with resisting arrest, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. He was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $500 bail.
