Lois M. Ashley, 88, of Massena passed away on November 29, 2011 at Massena Memorial Hospital. Born on June 20, 1923 in Louisville, NY the daughter of Samuel and Flossie (Wells) Lawrence. Lois married Ancel “Peanut” J. Ashley, on July 6, 1940 at Church of the Sacred Heart Rectory with Rev. Gerald Kellogg presiding. Mr. Ashley predeceased her on October 21, 1986.

Survivors include two daughters and four sons, Sharlene and husband Eugene Kargus of Appleton, WI; Linda and Francis “Bucky” Oakes both of Massena; Wayne and wife Mary of Massena; Leonard and wife Mary Jane of Stillwater, NY; Raymond and wife Effie and Halfmoon, NY: Bernard and wife Cathy of Massena, 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. At one time Lois was employed as a waitress for the Silver Grill Restaurant in Massena. During World War II she was briefly employed at Alcoa. When Lois’s family had grown she was employed as a sales clerk for Ames Department Store, and also was a Avon Representative. During the Seaway Construction Lois and her husband “Peanut” took in boarders. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, December 2,2011 at the Church of the Sacred Heart at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
