CANTON — An Antwerp man pleaded guilty Wednesday in St. Lawrence County Court to second-degree attempted murder.

Michael J. Simmons, 43, of 1 Barker Road, was indicted in July 2010 with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault and four counts of first-degree assault.

His plea will satisfy all counts of the indictment. In exchange for the plea, Judge Jerome J. Richards is expected to sentence him to 15 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

He is accused of tying up and raping a 54-year-old woman he knew in a town of Rossie home June 8, 2010. He reportedly became upset after learning she was leaving him for another man.

The woman suffered multiple injuries to her face and arms.

She spent several days at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, before being released.
