CANTON — The St. Lawrence men’s soccer team placed five players on the 2011 NCAA Men’s Division III Eastern Regional All-America first team, the most in program history.
The list includes Liberty League Player of the Year Sam DeMello and Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year Alex Laird, both juniors. They were joined by senior goalie Brian Abernethy, senior back Mike Manfredi, and sophomore midfielder Andrew Bednarsky.
This season’s team was the third in program history to go through the regular season unbeaten and untied. The Saints (18-1-1) set school records for shutouts, consecutive shutouts and consecutive shutout minutes.
ARTUS HONORED ACADEMICALLY
Senior Sara Artus of the Clarkson women’s volleyball team was honored as a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American, making her the first female athlete in school history to gain national recognition both academically and athletically as an All-American.
Artus, the program’s all-time leader in kills, was a national third-team selection. She has a 3.60 grade-point average as a double major in biology and psychology.
