Firefighters save home in Felts Mills Monday

FELTS MILLS — Firefighters saved a single-family house at 24410 Main St. Monday afternoon after a fire broke out in a workshop at the back of the structure.

About 30 firefighters from five fire departments were able to extinguish the blaze within about 30 minutes, saving the wood structure from major damage, said Felts Mills Fire Chief Donald Gill.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was an electrical problem, the fire chief said, noting that the structure sustained mainly water and smoke damage. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the garage. Two people were at home at the time when the fire broke out, he said.

Firefighters from Felts Mills, Rutland, Fort Drum, Black River and Great Bend responded to the call.
