Capitol update

Two updates for you this late morning from Albany:

The panel that left Lake Ontario's contributions to the War of 1812 in the governor's historic timeline has been replaced, and Sackets got its own shout-out from the governor's office.

Originally, the panel had said the War of 1812 was fought on three fronts: Plattsburgh, Lake Erie and Niagara Falls.

Now, it says it was fought on Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario and the Niagara Frontier, a much more accurate rendering of history. A spokesman for the governor had said that the inaccurate panel was only temporary.

The now-permanent display gives Sackets Harbor its own panel, telling visitors and public officials that in 1813, "Americans defeat British at the Battle of Sackets Harbor, preserving the most important American shipyard on Lake Ontario."

The Capitol corridors are jammed with people, as usual, and historic artifacts, which is not usual at all.

Even the Legislative Correspondents Association area, the high-ceilinged room from which the ink-stained wretches pound out column inches, gets an exhibit.

In addition, here's some more Sackets news: Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush's chief of staff and spokeswoman extraordinaire, Julia Robbins, has left her post to become the executive director of the New York State Corn and Soybean Growers Association.

Ms. Robbins tells me that the association will soon have a website, www.nycornsoy.org. She is a native of Sackets Harbor.
