PIERREPONT — Funeral service for Cedric J. Phillips, 91, of Pierrepont, will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:00pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Highway 11, Canton, with Rev. Evette Austin, officiating. Burial will be in Cooks Corner Cemetery in the spring. Cedric died on Friday, January 13, 2012 at home while under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of the service on Monday. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, 9 east Main Street, Canton or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, New York 13676.

Cedric is survived by his five children, Sandra Foley, his care giver and loving daughter; Donna Doornbush; Kay Blackmer; Barbara Phillips and Wayne Phillips; 17 grandchildren, Tammy, Kenny and Pete Pratt; Cindy Humphrey; Bidgette Ujlaky; Lonnie and Shelby Blackmer; Jeffery, David, Samuel and Colin Brown; Hope, John, Steven, Terri Lynn and Elmer Phillips and several great-grandchildren including Lance Corporal Nicholas and Jason Monast.

Cedric is predeceased by a brother Robert Phillips.

Cedric was born May 30, 1920 in Pierrepont, the son of the late Earl and Maude Phillips. He attended Cooks Corners and Pierrepont Schools. He enlisted in the US Army and was sent to the Pacific Theatre during WWII, where he served in the Philippines. After the war, he returned home and married Myrtle Huckle and began their family; Myrtle predeceased him in 1998. Cedric was employed building the roads and dams in South Colton, better known as the Seven Falls Area. He held several jobs such as logging, millwork, trapping, etc. He then became employed by the town of Pierrepont Highway Department, retiring in the late 80’s. After retiring, Cedric worked for Higley Flow State Park as the grounds keeper. Cedric dedicated his life to his family and community.

He was a past member of the Barney Pond Hunting Club.
