I would like to thank Matt Doheny for his letter to the people. It is always best when potential candidates let their views be know on subjects that may improve the people’s understanding of their view. Anything that can improve the effectiveness of Congress and “ the people’s” approval is a good thing! The approval rating of Congress could stand serious improvement.

Many times a problem seems to be very complex, hard to enforce, etc. This would seem to be the case with insider trading by congressional members. However, let me suggest a simple and easy solution. A law should be passed that no member of Congress or his staff be allowed to buy stock while a member. Of course, his immediate family should be excluded, and it should be a felony with expulsion from Congress if it happens. This would have the side effect of removing a profit motive from becoming a member and perhaps encourage more patriotically inclined people to run.
