Margaret M. Van Epps, 87, formerly of Adams, died Sunday morning at Mercy Center of NNY, Watertown. Her funeral will be 11:00 am Thursday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams, with Rev. Walter Giles interim Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in the Rural Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be from 4 - 7pm Wednesday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. At Mrs. Van Epps request, memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 29, Adams, NY 13605.
She is survived by a son Ronald J. (Shirley), Mannsville; two daughters and a son in law, Bernice V. Smith, Isanti, MI.; and Beverly (Joseph) Burnap, Bruce, WI.; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving her are a brother Robert (Priscilla) Miller, Delmar; a sister Agnes Wilson, Watertown; a sister in law Linda Miller, Glenmont; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by twin brothers who died at birth and a brother Richard Miller.
Mrs. Van Epps was born November 2, 1924 in Lorraine, daughter of George E Jr. and Pauline Corey Miller. She attended the Allendale School and graduated from Adams High School. Mrs. Van Epps was employed as a bookkeeper at both the former Empsalls Dept. Store, Watertown and the former Citizens and Farmers Trust Co., Adams. She married Howard E. Van Epps October 15, 1944 in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams. The couple lived in Adams all their married lives. The couple farmed, and their last farming was on the Allendale Flats in Lorraine, until 1967. At that time they purchased the Freeway Market, Adams. Mr. Van Epps died February, 1979 and Mrs. Van Epps continued operation of the store until 1982.
She was a Golden Sheaf member of the Adams Center Grange, a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams, where she held several offices, a member of the Adams Fire Dept. Auxiliary, a former member of the Adams High School Board of Education, a former member of the Board of Directors Jefferson County Extension Service and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Rhode Center, Adams.
