John Edward Aber, 64, of Port Jervis, N.Y. and Malone, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the Castle Point Veterans Hospital, Wappingers, N.Y., after a long illness.
He was born on July 23, 1947 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Leon Aber Sr. and Beatrice M. Parker Aber.
John proudly served our country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy and was a life member of the Tri-State Naval Post #7241, Port Jervis.
John was a graduate of Port Jervis High School in 1965 and continued his education at Siena College in Colonie, N.Y., earning his bachelors of arts degree in history. He then entered Oklahoma City University of Law, graduating with his Juris Doctor Law Degree and then admitted to the New York State Bar Association. In his early career of law, John worked as an assistant to the New York State Attorney General in Albany and was an attorney for the New York State Lottery Commission. He then opened his Law Office in Malone, where he practiced for many years.
John was very active in his community of Malone, he loved to travel, he enjoyed the art of gambling, watching baseball and was an avid bowler. He was extremely well read and especially enjoyed reading about world politics and history.
John is survived by his three daughters, Robin Aber of Portland, Oregon, Jocylyn Aber of Cohoes, N.Y. and Allison Aber of Albany, N.Y.; his grandson, John of Cohoes; three brothers, Leon, Donald and William Aber, allof Port Jervis; his sister, Alice Aber of Clinton, Ill.; and severalcousins and close friends.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday Jan. 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, N.Y. The Rev.James Brosius will officiate.
